And before nightfall, it was a confirmed the Nigerian scholar, and writer, Prof. Pius Adesanmi was on board the ill-fated flight, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, travelling from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, Kenya.

Prof. Puis Adesanmi was a scholar par excellence, a political critic and literary icon with a very creative sense of satire and its usage. He was one of the finest brains Africa is blessed with.
His popular novel, ‘Naija no dey Carry Last’ was reviewed on one of the episodes of the Africana Literati television show. The novel was a product of a publishing collaboration between Premium Times Books, and Parrésia Publishers Ltd. The book, a satirical ingenuity, gathers a collection of his reflections on the socio-political space in Nigeria over a decade. His other works include, ‘The Wayfarer and Other Poems’ published in 2001, and ‘You’re Not a Country, Africa’ published in 2011, among numerous other academic publications.
He had his education at University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan and British Columbia. Prof. Pius Adesanmi until his death was a Professor of English and African Studies at Carleton University in Canada, He won numerous awards including the inaugural Penguin Prize for African Writing in 2010.
His death is a real blow to the Nigerian literary and intellectual community.
